Start Here! - Basic Information

Every year in December millions of people all over the World celebrate Christmas - but why?
Christmas is an annual event to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, and is therefor a religious celebration within the Christianity.
Usually people who are celebrating Christmas starts early - depending mainly on the country where it is held.
One special thing Christmas in every country has in common is the decoration. Today most people have a Christmas tree in their home, but this tradition is pretty modern - it derives from Germany in the 18th century.
As you can see on the picture right above this text, you usually decorate the Christmas tree with ornaments and lights. The three most common colours, that by now pretty much symbolizes Christmas, are gold, red and green. And there is a simple reason for this choice! Gold symbolizes one of the gifts brought to Jesus child by the three Magi, red symbolizes Jesus' blood, when he died for us, and green symbolizes life. (Ace Collins, 2010: "The Story Behind the Great Traditions of Christmas")
Normally Christmas is celebrated the 25th of December, where you wake up to gifts. These gifts are said to be delivered by Santa Claus, which is a figure who, like the Christmas tree, derives from the German culture (Saint Nicholas). Saint Nicholas was known as a very gentle bishop, who carred for children  and oftem gave away gifts, therefor the tradition of giving gifts.
